Katrina Rebuilding Trip April 1-7, 2007
Aldersgate volunteers Dave Malzahn, George Stoll, Kenneth Hamilton and Gunnel Hamilton traveled to Gulfport, Mississippi where they stayed at "Camp Love," a permanent camp for Katrina volunteer teams established by the United Methodist Church. Bob Oelschlager was unable to go because his father developed a hernia.
Overcoming obstacles such as a cancelled flight from Atlanta to Gulfport, the team arrived in Mississippi on Monday April 2nd and put in a full five days work before returning the day before Easter on April 7th. As always, the work was very rewarding and the highlight was the fellowship gained from meeting and getting to know local homeowners and other volunteers.
The team made a short side trip to New Orleans to observe the damage and rebuilding efforts. They report that in Mississippi and especially in New Orleans, the amount of rebuilding work remaining to be done remains staggering.
