Outreach - Serving the Local Community.
Outreach physically touches our community in Christ's name so others experience the love and grace of God at work in their lives. We coordinate with and work through with many local organizations. Outreach also donates money to groups serving the local community, often paralleling where our volunteers give of their time. Please look into your heart and ask God to show you where your talents and skills would be best used to help:
R.O.C.K. - the Route One Community Kitchen provides meals for the hungry five days per week throughout the year. Aldersgate's day is Friday. Volunteers purchase food, prepare the meal Friday mornings and to deliver and serve lunch. To volunteer, please call Tom Miller at (703) 360-1013 email him at xcski@cox.net
Mondloch House - is a New Hope Housing initiative providing temporary shelter and services for homeless families and individuals. Volunteers buy and deliver fresh fruits and vegetables to Mondloch House — suggested cost is now about $35. Coordinators are also needed. Meals on Wheels - volunteers deliver meals to persons confined in their homes due to illness or physical disability. Teams of 2 deliver meals every month on the 1st, 3rd and 4th Tuesdays and the 3rd and 4th Wednesdays. To help out, contact Kathy Wicks at 703 360-6556 or at wicklets@yahoo.com
Hypothermia Project - during the winter months, volunteers are needed to prepare meals and to spend the night at the Route 1 temporary homeless shelter at the Rising Hope Methodist Mission Church on Russell Road. Rising Hope - assist in the ministry at
Eleanor Kennedy Shelter - six times a year Aldersgate volunteers purchase food for a week of lunches for the single adults living at this shelter (shoppers are needed – money is in the budget).
Hermitage in
Rising Stars - is a tutoring and mentoring program for at risk students at
Neighborhood Networks Family - Aldersgate helps support at least one needy family identified by the Neighborhood Networks community organization.
School
Community Liaison Coordinators - represent Aldersgate in local organizations such as United Community Ministries (UCM) and Ventures in Community. We have focused on housing needs with Ventures in Community as well as various UCM projects.
Christmas Adopt-a-Family – volunteers purchase, wrap, and deliver gifts for local needy families. Coordinators are also needed to organize and assign volunteers to families.
Food Drives - volunteers are needed to help with periodic food drives (such as the "Souper Bowl") supporting our various ministries.
