Pew Patrol "Procedures"
OUR
WHY WE DO IT: To help our friends enjoy a smooth worship experience, every time.
HOW WE DO IT:
- Distribute the Pew Pads (usually found in a large stack on a rear pew), one to each pew, against the center aisle armrest. Be sure there’s a pew pad on each set of side pews, for the choir (i.e., one on the left and one on the right, at the front). NOTE: We do not remove the filled out sheets from the pew pads; others have this task.
- Make sure that each book rack on every pew has these items, neatly positioned:
- Two United Methodist Hymnals
- Two The Faith We Sing Song Books
- One Bible
- Make sure that each “materials slot” in every pew has these items:
- Approximately three offering envelopes
- Approximately three prayer request slips
- Two “joining” brochures
- Two usable pencils
(NOTE: Items will be stored under the center section of the credenza in the Narthex. Other items may be added from time to time.)
- Pick up and discard old bulletins, scrap paper, and other trash from the entire pew area.
- On a rotational basis, sharpen a designated portion of the pew pencils. Five rows of pews are designated in the schedule for each week. NOTE: An electric pencil sharpener is located in the church work room. This sharpener will overheat periodically (every 15 pencils, or so) and must be allowed a “cool-down” period.
WHEN WE DO IT: Two or three times weekly. The first pass should be a “quick look,” concentrating on item 4, and should occur as soon as possible after Sunday services. This will ensure the pews are neat for any weekday services. The second, more thorough pass, should be at the end of the week, just prior to regular services. All items should be checked. This will catch any problems created by weekday services. If possible, make a quick “reset” pass after the Saturday evening service, to ensure the sanctuary is ready for Sunday morning.
