Confirmation 2008-09
An opportunity for rising 6th graders & up
Every year we invite all the rising sixth graders at Aldersgate to participate in the coming year’s confirmation program. Older youth who are not yet confirmed also are encouraged to participate in the program.
Confirmation is a year long experience during which these youth will learn, on a more intense level, what it means for you to follow Jesus in 2008. The goal of confirmation is to help them “perform” the faith on their own so that the faith belongs not just to their parents, but to them as well.
They will learn to practice faith in a variety of ways: in weekly classes, in weekly devotions at home, with a prayer partner, and in small groups, by doing mission and outreach projects, by worshipping at Aldersgate and by experiencing Christian fellowship in two retreat weekends (the last weekend in September 2008 and the first full weekend in May 2009).
We hope every sixth grader will join us this year, but we don’t want anyone to sign up unless they and their family are willing to make this a priority for the year. Class attendance will be important and some of the events will be required - no exceptions! (Parents also are needed and expected to volunteer time during the year as well as working with your youth every week on the lessons.)
Confirmation is one of the most rewarding experiences we can have as church staff with our church families. It’s also one of the best opportunities for youth to learn the basics of the Christian faith.
