For Parents

Curriculum and Expectations

 

Classes

  • Class meets Sundays at 9:45
  • It’s expected that youth miss no more than 3 classes
  • A summary of each class topic will be available on the church website to guide parents’ conversations with their children.  

 

Daily Scripture Readings

  • Each week there will be 4-5 daily readings with guiding questions for youth to read with their family. These readings will complement the Sunday text.
  • Readings and questions will be posted on the church website.

 

Worship Attendance

  • It’s expected that the youth will worship 2 times per month at Aldersgate- a total of 14 services for the year. Any of the four weekend services are acceptable.
  • An outline, guiding their reactions to the service, will be made available.
  • Outlines can be turned into leaders for credit.

 

Prayer Pals

  • “Prayer Pals” are spiritual mentors from the congregation. Each confirmand will be assigned a prayer pal by the covenant service on September 26.
  • Prayer pals will meet with confirmands 2 times per month to discuss class topics and readings, explore doubts and questions and to pray for another.

 

Covenant Service

  • Friday, September 26 at Aldersgate
  • Parents will meet in the sanctuary no later than
  • *Do not tell your child that you will be attending this

 

Basilica Visit: 11/8

  • Visit to Shrine of the Immaculate Conception at Catholic University
  • Purpose of the visit: have the confirmands explore a different worship context and to reflect on beauty as a form of devotion to God.

 

Service Ministry

  • It’s expected that confirmands will participate in one of the church’s service ministries over the course of the year (Phoenix Rising, ROCK, Hypothermia Shelter, Highland Support Project or Cambodia Mission Initiatives).
  • This can be done on the confirmand’s own time. They can complete the service requirement by themselves, with their prayer pal or in small groups of their classmates.
  • Confirmation Leaders will provide parents with a list of possibilities and dates.

 

Spring Retreat

  • Friday- Sunday, May 1-3 at Camp Highroad.
  • Mandatory Event
