Welcome to the Revolution!
The topic for our September sermons comes out of the small groups that John Wesley started as the Wesleyan revolution spread throughout
Out of this movement came a commitment by participants to make three agreements: to avoid harm as possible, to contribute to the common good, and to put into practice the group and individual disciplines of the Christian faith.
September 6 & 7:
Philippians 1:21-30 (Avoid harm)
September 13 & 14:
Philippians 2:1-13 (Do Good)
September 20 & 21:
Philippians 3:4b-14 (Practice the personal disciplines of the Christian Faith)
September 27 & 28:
Philippians 4:1-9 (Practice the corporate disciplines of the Christian Faith)
In an effort to make Aldersgate stronger, we hope you will make similar commitments with one another in your small groups here and then hold each other accountable for those shared commitments.
We have a worksheet for you to take to your next meeting – whether it be a prayer group, women’s circle, men’s group, sandwich making team, committee, council, or informal parents’ group on the playground. With that group of people who you regularly meet, discuss and agree about how you – as a group and as individuals – will avoid harm, do good, and practice the personal and corporate disciplines of the Christian Faith.
Write down those agreed upon points and then have everyone sign the sheet, making their covenant with the other members of the group. Then, every time you are together, check up with one another – allow the group to help keep you accountable.
All of our groups need to be part of this – everyone has a role in making Aldersgate stronger. Please, download and print this Covenant Agreement worksheet and start today.
If your group would like to share your agreed upon covenant with others in the church community, we can put covenant pages online. You may leave a photocopy of your Covenant Agreement in the Communications mailbox in the church workroom (room 120).
Thank you for taking this step toward strengthening your faith as well as our faith in one another. Aldersgate offers a wonderful religious community for all of us. This is one way we can all help keep it strong.
