2009 Meetings & Activities

 

September 13 – Kick-Off (special time 5:30 -7:30 p.m.) $5/per person

Join us in the back of the church for games, food and fellowship. Wear bathing suits and lather on the sun screen for the dunk tank. Everyone will get a shot to dunk Jason and Andreas. All parents make sure to sign in your child when you drop off and bring your completed health forms (download and print from website).

 

September 20 – Introductions and Ideas

Come along to our first evening meeting to get reacquainted with old friends and meet some new ones. Bring your ideas and a snack to share. Fun and fellowship to be had by all.

 

September 27- The Gifts of the Spirit

Did you know you have special gifts – everybody does! Come and learn how to discover your special gifts from God and how to use them to make this world a more loving place.

                       

October 4 – Building Character - Honesty

Sometimes it’s really hard to tell what the truth is and even harder to live by it.  Learn who is always there to help you figure out the right thing to do and give you the courage to do it.

 

October 10 – Putt Putt Golf Kingstown (Saturday special time 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.)

We will meet at the church and caravan over to Kingstown.  Drivers and chaperones needed.  Please watch your e-mail for further details.

 

October 18 – Building Character – Trustworthiness

Remember the little boy that cried wolf – he didn’t end up very happy.  Join us and hear how earning and keeping people’s trust is one of the most important gifts we can give ourselves.

 

October 25 – Building Character - Kindness

It’s not always easy to be kind but it is always the best choice.  Come and see how you can get help from the Holy Spirit to make kindness your choice every time.

 

November 1 – No AFO

 

November 8 – Building Character – Patience

God grant me patience - but hurry please!  Instant gratification is a way of life these days – come and learns to slow down and be patient.

 

November 15 – Making Sundaes on Sunday

Bring your favorite ice cream topping to share.  We will provide the rest.  Make a Sundae and then have a blast playing Bible Jeopardy.

 

November 22 – Building Character - Humility

Do you see being humble as a weakness?  Guess again - it will make you stronger than steel because it will put God on your side. Please meet in Room 102

 

November 29 - No AFO – Thanksgiving

 

December 6 – Building Character – Generosity

Don’t let the Midas touch take hold of you – learn how to give and enjoy it!  It really is true that to give is to receive. 

 

December 12 – Santa’s Elves (Saturday special time 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (NO meeting on Sunday) Help load Santa’s sleigh.  We will deliver toys collected by the Day School to United Community Ministries Christmas Closet.  Drivers and chaperones needed.  Please meet in Room 102. Make sure to visit Living Bethlehem!!

 

December 20 – Christmas Caroling (Special time – 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.)

Don’t miss this annual event.  We go caroling and then come back to the church for cookie decorating (and eating) and delicious hot chocolate.  This year we are going to Paul Spring Retirement Community and we will carol through the halls.  Chaperones and drivers needed.  Please meet in Wesley Hall.

January 10 – Celebrating Differences 

How do we deal with people that are different from us?  That would be everyone since we are all unique.  Come and see how boring it would be if we were all alike and then you truly can celebrate differences.

 

January 17      Homeless, what would you do?

How does it feel, how to be more understanding and what can we do to help?

 

January 23 – Cosmic Bowling (Saturday, special time 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.)

Join us for Cosmic Bowling at Fort Belvoir with pizza and drinks.  Drivers and Chaperones needed.  Please watch your e-mail for further information. (No meeting on Sunday)

 

January 31 – No AFO – FCPS 4 day weekend       

 

February 7 – No AFO – Superbowl Sunday

 

February 14 – How to Relate to Parents – Yes, it’s Possible!

Parents really aren’t the enemy they just appear to be.  Come and learn some tricks to have your parents eating out of your hand (well almost). Meet in room 102.

 

February 21 – Pizza and Game Night

Come enjoy pizza and a chance to win “Who Wants to be a Bible Millionaire”.

 

February 28 – But It’s Fun to Fight with My Brother!

Even if you don’t have a sibling, come and learn how to get along with those closest to you. Remember, bickering isn’t the only source of entertainment out there.

 

March 7 – No More Sesame Street – Please

Sick of being treated like a little kid – come and learn how to get the respect and independence you want.  Hint – it may take a little growing up

             

March 14– Winning Isn’t Everything

Did you know that behind every successful person are a lot of important failures? Remember, winning isn’t real unless it’s fair.

 

March 20 – Laser Tag (Saturday, special time - 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.)

We will welcome Tom’s Laser Tag to Aldersgate for the forth year.  Chaperones needed.  Please watch you e-mail for further details. (No meeting on Sunday)

 

March 28 – No AFO - Spring Break

Don’t forget the Aldersgate Easter Egg Hunt for all preschool and elementary kids at 3:00 p.m. on the church grounds.

 

April 4 - No AFO – Easter Sunday

 

April 11 – Spiritual Disciplines

Can discipline ever be fun? The rewards sure are!  Come and learn what Christian practices can bring to your life. 

 

April 18  - Fact or Fantasy? 

Is it real or do you just wish it were?  Come and see that if it looks too good to be true then it probably is.

 

April 25 Recycle to take care of God’s green earth

We will learn about what can be recycled and pledge to do our part to take care of our planet.

 

May 2  – We will make Mother’s Day gifts – please watch your e-mail for further details.

 

May 9 – No AFO – Mother’s Day – Do something fun with your mom and celebrate the great job she has done raising you!

 

May 16 -  Do you really need that?

Most people have more than they need and forget to give thanks for the many blessings they have. Learn to be more generous, less selfish and grateful for what you have.

 

May 23 - We will have our end of the year picnic – good food and great games!
