NEPAL EMERGENCY FAMINE RELIEF
Why Nepal? Local activists?
Many of us are celebrating the end of a state of emergency and reopening of public spaces. We are able to do so because of our access to healthcare and basic resources. On the other side of the world, a second wave of Covid-19 presents a starkly different reality. In Nepal, cases have skyrocketed. One in two people in Nepal tests positive, one of the highest rates in the world. Millions of people do not have access to food.
Let us be clear – people are dying of starvation because of the lack of food caused by the economic fallout of Covid-19.
A third of the country lives in poverty and after a seven-month lockdown last year the majority of citizens have had no income for over a year. They desperately struggle to find ways to feed their families.
The donations that we have already received are already at work providing food packages for 115 families (feeding 575 people for a month, with reusable masks, and sanitary pads and menstrual hygiene training for 122 girls and women).
Our next distribution is aiming to reach 150 families from some of the most impoverished communities in remote hill areas and 25 families living on the streets of Kathmandu.
A donation of just $27, will provide a food and hygiene package for one family of five persons for a month.
100% of every donation goes directly to the package!
If you have the ability to do so, please donate here
