LENT @ ALDERSGATE 2021
READY TO GO KNEE DEEP FOR 40 DAYS?
Knee deep into what? Knee deep into prayer for the 2021 Lenten season. The Lenten season gives us an opportunity to focus in on spiritual disciplines which in turn help us grow in our relationship with God and others. Prayer helps the fruits of the spirit be realized and to grow in our lives. You know, such things as love, joy, peace, patience..., kindness, gentleness, self- control.
With a Prayerful Soul,
"Spiritual work is taxing work, and people are loath to do it. Praying, true praying, costs an outlay of serious attention and of time, which flesh and blood do not relish." E.M. Bounds, Power Through Prayer
SELF-GUIDED PRAYER WALK: HINSON FARM ROAD
This neighborhood walk will take you past various medical facilities and county buildings. This guide will highlight points along the way. You may plan to stop at those locations, or you may just walk along the route and see where the Spirit leads your prayers - either way, it's an exciting and engaging way to pray. A prayer walk is a way to bless others around you, covering them in prayer. Download the Prayer Walk.
PRAYER WORKSHOPS: MARCH 11 & 18 @ 7:00PM
We will explore what prayer means, what prayer does and does not do, and learn contemplative, experiential ways to deepen your experience of prayer. Pastor Emily will facilitate these workshops. Workshops begin at 7:00 p.m. If interested in attending, send email to firstname.lastname@example.org for the zoom link.
SELF-GUIDED PRAYER DRIVE: LOCAL SCHOOLS
These neighborhood drives will take you past schools that serve the children in our community, and will provide suggestions to lift up in prayer at each of the locations.
Drive A includes schools in the 22306, 22307 & 22308 zip codes. Download Drive A.
Drive B includes schools in the 22309 zip code. Download Drive B.

GOOD FRIDAY PRAYER STATIONS
Located in the church parking lot, 7 prayer stations will be available from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 2nd. The stations invite us to reflect on Trust, Goodness, Confidence, Love, Endurance, Belief, and Peace as we walk through the events of Good Friday and the passion of Jesus Christ. Download the Prayer Stations guide.
GOOD FRIDAY FASTING & PRAYER
Our Prayer team, Spiritual formation team and Leadership team as well as our pastors would like to invite you into a congregational fast on Good Friday, April 2. This coincides with our Stations of the Cross from 11am-1pm (come when you can), here on the church parking lot. You may wish to fast for breakfast, lunch or both up through participating in the stations of the cross, then break fast afterwards. Even if you cannot make it to the church you can still download the Prayer stations booklet put together by our Prayer team and fast and pray wherever you are on that Good Friday.
You know your health needs best, so please respond to this invitation accordingly. If you would like to fast but have concerns you can always check with your doctor. It’s still ok to drink water.
During our Lenten season we have invited you to go Knee Deep in prayer and this affords an opportunity to do just that. Spiritual fasting builds focus and awareness. Fasting clears the way for deeper communication and reflection which we seek from God in prayer. There is no pressure to fast or to have to fast with the Prayer stations, it is simply another invitation to go deeper on a most holy day- Good Friday as we think of all Jesus suffered for us.
