This year we will be taking pre-orders for a variety of plants that will be grown at Rising Hope to be planted and harvested by you in due season. Discover the joy of music through Children's Choir. We believe in nurturing young voices and fostering a lifelong love of church music. Our choir program is for children in kindergarten through 6th grade. Weekly rehearsals on Tuesdays, from 4:15-4:50pm in the Music Room. Registration is not required, but you are encouraged to send a note to Ms. Ashley Carignan , Children's Choir Director , to let her know if your children plan to attend for planning purposes. What to Expect • Fun and Engaging Rehearsals filled with laughter, learning, and music-making. • An inclusive and supportive environment for building friendships with like-minded kids who share an interest in music and where every child’s voice will be celebrated. • Diverse repertoire where we explore a wide range of musical genres, from traditional hymns to contemporary songs. • Performances throughout the year during church services, special events, and holiday celebrations. EVENT INFORMATION < Previous Event Back to Upcoming Events Back Next Event > Migrant Mutual Solidarity Aid Info Meeting Informational meeting for MSMA Wednesday, March 25th at 7:00pm Aldersgate UMC | Church Library Many immigrant families who have had someone detained or deported are in need of logistical and spiritual support. They need help in navigating through our systems to know where they can get assistance, determine what has happened to their loved once etc. Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid (MSMA) has many resources that can be provided these families yet needs churches to help accompany them on the journey, determine their needs, and assist with communication and logistics. This ministry of accompaniment is an extension of God's grace to ease their anxiety and fear. There will be an informational meeting on the work of MSMA on Wednesday evening, March 25 at 7:00pm in the church Library. If you have questions, please reach out to Rev. Dr. Keary Kincannon . This is an easy and impactful way to support our church while also helping extend the life of books. The green donation bin is located in our parking lot and is available at any time for your convenience. What can you donate? Hardcover, paperback, and textbooks are welcome — as long as they have an ISBN barcode on the back cover. Donated books are resold to new readers, generating funds for our nonprofit ministry. Books that are no longer usable will be responsibly recycled rather than sent to a landfill. Thank you for supporting both our mission and sustainability efforts! Donate cans of soup to support the mission and ministry of Rising Hope UMC. MISSION INFORMATION < Previous Back to Local Missions Next > Rising Hope Souper Bowl Drive We are collecting cans of soup throughout the month of February that will go to support the missions and ministries at Rising Hope Mission Church. Our goal is to collect at least 500 cans of soup throughout the month of February. Consider picking up additional cans of soup each time you shop and deliver them to the designated bins at Aldersgate. Please look for soups that are high in vegetables and protein, low in sodium count, and in cans that have a pop-top. During the winter months, Aldersgate supports the Hypothermia Shelter at the Rising Hope United Methodist Mission Church on Russell Road. MISSION INFORMATION < Previous Back to Local Missions Next > Hypothermia Shelter In partnership with Ventures in Community and New Hope Housing , Rising Hope United Methodist Church provides overnight emergency shelter from December through March for individuals experiencing homelessness. Volunteers from community churches and local civic groups provide a hot home cooked dinner and breakfast bags. Aldersgate UMC is proud to support this mission again this year! We will collect donations of winter clothing and/or blankets through the month of March. Donations may be new or used and in good condition. The most needed items are socks, gloves, hats, and coats. Sunday School Christianity and World Religions Sundays | 9:30am | Church Library The BASIC Bible study will begin the new year exploring Christianity and World Religions. We will use the 2018 "Revised Edition" Book by Methodist Pastor Adam Hamilton. This study will begin on 1/4/2026 and run through January and February. The study will briefly explore the 5 great religions: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Judaism. Hamilton produced a DVD in 2005 for the first edition - and we will use that DVD to supplement our study. The journey to Christmas begins in Rome. On the Way to Bethlehem follows the long journey to Christmas. The story begins in Rome with a decree issued from the seat of worldly power for a census, setting into motion events leading to the birth of the Savior of the world in a town that represents the very opposite of worldly power, Bethlehem. Author Rob Fuquay provides insight into the geographical and historical significance of Rome, Jerusalem, Nazareth, and Bethlehem, along with the important characters through whom the Christmas drama unfolds. You will be drawn into those places in a way that helps you experience the spiritual truths each location holds. The reflection we give in these places prepares the heart and soul to experience wonder, awe, mystery, and joy. Help us collect items to fill Boost Bags for the food insecure in our community. MISSION INFORMATION < Previous Back to Local Missions Next > Be the Good Boost Bags Our missional focus for November is the Be the Good Project . The Be the Good Project is a local non-profit organization whose mission is to provide safe and simple ways for volunteers to help feed our neighbors who are experiencing hunger and food insecurity. We will put together Boost Bags on Sunday, November 23rd, as a part of our Deck the Halls Christmas decorating event. The shopping list of items can be found below as well as by Door 3 at the church. Please note that the items on this shopping list are specific items that have been requested. No substitutions, please. Be the Good Boost Bags are distributed through local schools and non-profits that serve families who are experiencing hunger and food insecurity across Northern Virginia. How To Volunteer: Purchase an entire content of a Boost Bag. Purchase items to go towards a Boost Bag (individually listed) Make a contribution and we will purchase the contents needed to make Boost Bags using this contribution. (Check can be made to Aldersgate UMC, memo: Be The Good.) Couple of Things to Note: We will need all items purchased (full bag or individual items) brought to the church by Wednesday, November 19th. Please place food donations in the bin at Door 3. Church Office open Monday - Thursday, 10am-4pm Day School Office open Monday - Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm Questions: Please email Jill Cox.
